Mr. Song is working for his PhD in the the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, Chjina. He works under the supervision of Professor YANG Xing-Ke and Dr. BAI Ming. His research interests are mainly on morphology and evolution of Rutelinae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea), including comparative morphology, functional morphology of Coleoptera, and beetle-plant interactions.

He hopes to establish strong characters that will provide a sound basis for a modern taxonomy of Rutelinae.

He has collected extensively in Xinjiang, Hainan, including insects such as Grylloblattodea, Sinodendron cylindricum (L.), and Parnassius apollinaris (Staudinger), which are all rare species. The grylloblattodid is a new species and represents the second species of Grylloblattodea in China. He is currently conducting basic research on Rutelinae and is looking forward to collaboration with other researchers.
