Jesús is a PhD student at the University of Nebraska working as a research and curatorial assistant for the University of Nebraska State Museum. His research interests are focused on understanding insect diversity (especially Cetoniinae) using tools from taxonomy, phylogenetics, biogeography, and ecology.

Jesús completed his M.Sc. in 2007 at Western Kentucky University under the supervision of Dr. Keith Philips. His master's thesis involved a preliminary phylogeny of the American Cetoniini and a biodiversity study of the Cetoniinae beetles of Ghana (West Africa).

For his doctoral dissertation he is doing a monographic revision of the American Cetoniini genera under the supervision of Dr. Brett Ratcliffe.
