Distribution: All
of the species occur in South America, and Bothynus complanus Burmeister
reaches Honduras.

Diagnosis: Bothynus species are distinguished by the presence
of tridentate mandibles extending laterally beyond the clypeus, clypeus
strongly contracted to a bidentate apex, nearly smooth elytra, quadridentate
protibiae, and pronotum with a subapical tubercle followed by a large fovea.
