Lichens Loaned to UNO

The lichen collection of about 10,000 specimens is largely the work of Walter Kiener, a prodigious collector in the 1940s and 1950s who exchanged with other collectors, including some prominent European lichenologists. It contains the only records of many Nebraska species, and it includes numerous specimens that Kiener collected in the Rocky Mountains and elsewhere. The entire collection is on long-term loan to the University of Nebraska at Omaha for annotation and databasing. There, it complements the existing collection of 16,000 worldwide specimens.
