Dr. Paul and Betty Marx Science Discovery Center

CONSTRUCTION PHASE 2 The Marx Discovery Center is sprouting big changes. Fun and fantastic things are happening in the museum. A tree has grown from the floor and a simulated beaver pond is flowing into place. The dig-site portion of the Discovery Center is open during construction. Come on in and uncover your favorite fossils.

The museum was proud to announce the completion of the first phase of the interior of the Marx Discovery Center. Now we are working on the second phase. Perhaps you have known this space as the Encounter Center. The new name is in honor of the donors who have made the renovation possible. We wish to thank the Marx family for this wonderful gift.

   The first phase of the interior of the room has been completed. After visiting with the donor, we learned that Dr. Marx was very interested in archeology and paleontology, so we decided to begin with a focus on what this museum knows a lot about-fossils! We created a dig site. This is a re-creation of our satellite museum Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park, located north of Royal, Nebraska. There are fossil skeletons of rhinoceros waiting to be uncovered in a special dig site, touchable fossils of mammals and plants of the past and the geology of Lincoln.

The remainder of the room will eventually hold more new hands on exhibits on geology and biodiversity.

Come explore in our new dig site and become a paleontologist. Uncover the secrets of the past in this new space!
