Mueller Planetarium joined forces with Astronomy Magazine and Meade Telescopes to host Astronomy Day 2008. All who visited the event had a chance to win a Meade ETX-80AT-TC telescope valued at $300 given away locally, and register for a chance to win a Meade 8-inch LX 90 telescope (valued at $1999) given away nationally. We had a day of fun educational astronomy activities and exhibits for the entire family, and conclude with a "star party" during regular open hours (sundown to 11 pm) of Hyde Memorial Observatory in Holmes Park. The Planetarium also featured a special showing of the Fulldome Experience program, "Extreme Planets."
Dinosaurs & Disasters: Family Science Day
Saturday, February 2, 2008, Morrill Hall
The University of Nebraska State Museum and the UNL Department of Geosciences held their annual fun family day: Dinosaurs & Disasters. This year's theme reflected the International Polar Year.
It was a full day of discovery with three floors of hands-on activities with scientists! This year, the Antarctic Geological Drilling (ANDRILL) Program was featured in Elephant Hall. The ANDRILL Science Management Office, located at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, administers and coordinates the program's scientific research.
Topics included: global climate change, fossils, geology, natural disasters, plus planetarium shows. Visitors were encouraged to bring a rock or fossil for identification.
